Culture Of Fear

I was reading True Mom Confessions the other day, and one of the confessions was "I know there's no such thing as a 'low risk' pregnancy" WHAT?!?! This confessor allowed comments on her post so I *had* to leave one!

I wrote that the vast majority of pregnancies are low risk. I thought this was common knowledge. If pregnancy were inherently dangerous, "high risk", the human race would have ceased to exist a very long time ago!

The medical industry's propaganda that pregnancy, labour & birth are so dangerous, is criminal. So very many women are fearful of pregnancy, labour & birth. It shouldn't be this way. The medical industry is so powerful. So powerful that our entire society believes that pregnancy/labour/birth MUST be managed by a physician because of "all the things that could go wrong".

What do people think women did before the specialist/surgical profession of obstetrics came along? How many women survived pregnancy/labour/birth before then? Millions, billions. How many women still survive pregnancy/labour/birth WITHOUT medical supervision, interventions, obstetrics, etc? Millions!

It's depressing how many women I've encountered that are so scared of the very thing their bodies were made to do, and to do well.
