I was just at message board & one of the threads was about the persecution of Christians & "if that even happens". Well, duh, Christians always *have* been persecuted, and still are in many parts of the world. I was surprised that many of the people said "no", some said that Christians *wish* they would be persecuted & oppressed in order to *claim to be like Jesus*. Erm...ever hear of Voice of the Martyrs, or Gospel for Asia? Some of the comments were really ignorant, and yet, these people are the ones calling Christians ignorant.
Saying that Christians are not persecuted is like saying The Burning Times never happened.

Spontaneous Creation
I bought this e~book called Spontaneous Creation: 101 Reasons Not To Have Your Baby In A Hospital, Vol. 1. I haven't read it yet, but I skipped ahead to the first 51 reasons. I experienced about 35 of those reasons. Scary stuff.
Hospitals, obstetrics & certain interventions *do* have their place, but to think that using those routinely = a safe & happy birth experience is a bit...naive. Uninformed. I had all of those with both of my pregnancies, labors & births. And I had awful experiences. Epidurals, continuous electronic fetal monitoring, IV fluids, forceps, vacuums. I was deprived of food & water, and not able to get out of bed. And then what? A healthy, safe & happy birth? No. Major abdominal surgery.
I was going to list the first 51 reasons, along with excerpts from the book, but I don't want to scare my pregnant friends. I wish midwifery care was more widely available in this country [there are only 100 licensed midwives in California], that midwives could practice with as much freedom as obstetricians, and that midwifery was legal in ALL 50 STATES.

Immunisations & Informed Consent
When Annika was a baby, we took her to the pediatrician every month, like we were "supposed to". Hmm, and every month she had an ear and/or throat infection & was given a prescription for antibiotics. When we stopped taking her to that doctor, she *mysteriously* stopped getting ear/throat infections. Hmmm!
When we decided not to have Chloe immunised after her 1st set of shots, the doctor gave us SUCH a hard time. We brought up our issues with the waiver, the risks, all the unknowns, etc, and she STILL gave us a hard time. She showed no respect for our WELL EDUCATED decision not to further vaccinate our children. So we stopped going to her.
In Henci Goer's book, The Thinking Woman's Guide To A Better Birth, she talks about informed consent [so does the book linked to above], which is another topic I'm really passionate about! I know for sure that I wasn't FULLY informed when I consented to antibiotics, vaccinations, epidurals, IV's, c~sections etc. Henci wrote that we have the right to consent AND to decline. Doctors don't tell you that! Unfortunately, the vast majority of people are not FULLY informed. Risked are glazed over, minimised, if brought up at all. I still have daily pain at the site of the epidural I had 6 1/2 years ago, which is the least of what could have happened to me.
If you've never declined some sort of treatment or immunisation, you have no idea of the wrath of doctors! They will put you down, tell you that you don't know what you're talking about, try to scare you, tell you that you are a bad parent, that your child will DIE, that you're making the wrong decision, that you won't be welcome in their practice anymore. They will LIE to you & tell you that vaccines are mandatory. They will say and do anything to get you to immunise your children. And you have to wonder why? Especially when the parents have researched & studied & know what they're talking about? Ask a doctor & find out! Ooh, angry. Talk about a God Complex!!
I have so much more to say, but Chloe distracted me & I've lost my train of thought & my rantiness. :p

Chinese Gender Calendar
Cecilia told me and Natalie about this Chinese gender calendar, she said it was accurate for her, her sisters, etc. So I tried it out for my own kids, siblings, uncles, aunts, nephews...and it was accurate for everyone, except my Mom! :p
